Venerable Rangrig Rinpoche was born in Wood-Sheep Year of Tibetan lunar calendar to the son of Tsokhang Choktrul Tsewang Dorjee Rinpoche and Mayum Tsering Yangzom. He was born into the great Mahasiddha family of Golok Serta Rinpoche (Pema Lungtok Gyatso) Avo-Lishudhakortsang, making a patrilineal clan connection to Thragthung Dudjom Lingpa. These clans are known as the “A-Chak-Dru-Sum” clans descended from the greatly realized Nubchen Sangye Yeshe, one of the 25 disciples of Padmasambhva.
Rinpoche spent the early 7 years of his life with his revered Mahasiddha Grandfather Golok Serta Rinpoche, who is recognized as an emanation of Yudra Nyingpo, one of the 25 disciples of Padmasambhava.
Rinpoche then spent over 25 years with his father, who is an emanation of Dudjom Lingpa’s high disciple – Tsokhang Rinpoche. From his father, Rinpoche received Dudjom Tersar “Throma Toeluk” in Namkha Khyung Dzong tradition. This includes Throma Ngondro, Zab Sang Khandro Nyingthig Ngondro (the main Dudjom Lineage Ngondro of the Profound Secret Heart Essence of the Dakinis), Throma Nagmo Practice, Chod Practice, Phowa, Nang-Jang, Trekchod, Thodgal, and many great teachings. Rinpoche practiced and performed Retreat, Drupchen, Dharma Dance, Yoga (Tsalung) and many Dharma activities with his great father. During this time he had also studied in Mindrolling Nyingma Lama’s College in India for 7 years to pursue higher Nyingmapa lineage education and Buddhist studies.
Rinpoche received all Dudjom lineage and Nyingmapa teachings, empowerments, and initiations from many great Nyingmapa masters including H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche and H.H. Dungse Kyabje Thinley Norbu Rinpoche.
Rinpoche is the Dharma Holder of Rivo Tsegya Monastery near Mount Kailash. This monastery was built by his grandfather Mahasiddha Serta Rinpoche and father Choktrul Tsewang Rinpoche. Rinpoche is also one of the lineage holders of Dudjom Throma Namkha Khyung Dzong tradition.
With great compassion Rinpoche is devoted to lead Riwotsegya Throma Buddhist Institute and has a great faith in expanding the Dudjom Tersar Throma Toeluk dharma activities to benefit all sentient beings.
